Lackland at ESN

Lackland is a Youth Theatre Company, based in East Nashville, that exists to bring collaborative beauty to our community. It is a place to find your voice and, more importantly, to listen to the voices of others. We believe in empathy and self-awareness. We believed in the individual, and we believe in the whole. We believe that the skills developed in the theatre are not only valuable for those interested in pursuing the arts, but also for the rest of our lives.

We are so excited to bring Lackland to ESN! All of our classes will be taught by Isabel Webb, Lackland’s lead Drama Instructor with a BFA in Musical Theatre. Our classes are for actors of every experience level. We love working with brand new actors, as well as actors who would like to continue developing their skills, and we also have work for children who aren’t sure about performing publicly but want to be involved and have a great time! If you have any questions about our class content or Showcase involvement, email Isabel.lackland@gmail.com

Class Descriptions

Adventure Storytelling (Pre-K through K)
In this class, we’ll read a story (or two) each week, and use our memory and imagination to recreate that story. Kids will be able to play and use their imaginations to the fullest, while also finding new ways to express themselves!

Move & Groove! (Pre-K through K)
In this class, we’ll move and groove to music, with guided prompts to teach the kids how to use their bodies to tell stories! (A great introduction to the concept of acting in a fun and physical way!)

Creative Acting (1st-3rd Graders)
This combination acting/improv class for all skill levels will let each child explore their creativity through games, stories, and creativity. New actors will learn foundational skills and actors with previous experience will be challenged to stretch and grow their developing skills!

Improvise with Me! (1st-3rd Graders)
In these introductory improv classes, young actors learn to adapt, to create, to empathize, to collaborate, to be present to the moment, and to say “yes” to new possibilities!

Intro to Improv and Acting (4th-5th Graders)
In this class, students will be introduced to improv games and acting exercises that will help them explore the ways they can connect with each other and tell a story.

Acting 101 (6th-8th Graders)
In this class, students will learn the basics of acting and the tools they can use to a story. This class is a great opportunity to build the confidence in young actors who may not have a lot of experience, but are excited about theatre!
